- A Nation of Immigrants: What Influenced their Art? - January 4 - February 27, 2008
Curators’ Statement
We are happy to have had the opportunity to select art work for the A Nation of Immigrants: What Influences their Art? Our goal was to select art that is currently being created by artists whose inspiration is the immigration experience. We look at the history each artist brings to their art; and how their culture and heritage resonates through their work. Some experiences might speak louder than others, but as you walk through the exhibition and observe each piece, consider how these artists’ styles and cultures contributes to this exhibition and our nation.
We were grateful for the exposure to so many challenging images and interesting ideas. The artworks in this show represent a wide range of media, styles, concerns, and sensibilities. This variety in both subject and material is indicative of the freedom currently available to artists, which allows them to explore wherever and however their inspiration leads them.
We hope you will enjoy the breadth and scope of art inspired by the A Nation of Immigrants: What Influences their Art. We know you will appreciate a multitude of visual expressions, embracing ideas and approaches that are both personal and cultural.
Thank you for giving us the honor of curating this exhibition.
